Focus turned to the stage on Saturday as the Kerala University Youth Festival moved onto the second day at Cherthala, putting behind the commotions and frenzy of the inaugural day.
Business began more than two hours behind schedule, with competitions at all eight venues getting off to a start at 12 p.m. only, when the contestants should actually have been on stage by 9.30 a.m. The delay was passed on, with the mono-act competition, scheduled for 11 a.m., beginning only around 4 p.m. However, this did not appear to have dampened the spirits of the students, who poured every ounce of their competitive spirit into the contests.
As the results of the contests began pouring in one by one, students from the State Capital seemed to dominate. The winner for the Mohiniyattom contest, the first event of the festival held after the inaugural function on Friday and which went on till around 2.30 a.m., was Meera Anil of Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. Ms. Anil also won the first prize for the fancy dress competition held later on Saturday.
