The whole of South India was one cultural unit and it was only recently that Kerala was seen as a distinct region, said M.V. Narayanan, a professor from Thrissur. He said the idea of theatre had been entrenched in the ancient society and plays were staged near temples.
He was speaking at a seminar on Indian theatre at the Kulasekhara Theatre Festival 2014 organised by International Centre for Koodiyattom, Tripunithura.
Kalamandalam Sangeeth spoke on ‘Vicharaabhinaya’. Aparna Nangyar said Kulasekhara gave prominence to women in theatre. Short performances by artistes enthralled the audience. Later, Sajeev Narayanan and group along with Margi, Thiruvananthapuram, staged the ‘Tapati Samvaranam’, a Koodiyattom performance, at Layam ground.
