A protest led by Hibi Eden, MLA, was held at the office of the Executive Engineer, Kerala Water Authority, at Pallimukku here on Wednesday demanding immediate steps to resolve the water scarcity on HMCA Road in South Chittoor.

Mr. Eden said that the residents were depending on water supplied in private tanker lorries for several days owing to the acute water shortage. “We have learnt that the irregular pumping from the Pachalam pumping station of the water authority is a major bottleneck in the smooth distribution of water in the area,” he said.

'Ready to provide Rs. 6 lakh'

Mr. Eden informed water authority officials that he was ready to provide ₹6 lakh under the MLA fund to improve the distribution line to the area. The officials pointed out that they would have to discuss the proposal with the Public Works Department. As a short-term measure, efforts will be made to provide water from alternate distribution lines.
