The family of Shiju, who was arrested in Abu Dhabi on charge of drug trafficking, met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and MP K.V. Thomas in Kochi on Tuesday to express their gratitude for getting Shiju released.
Shiju’s mother Jancy, and his siblings Joshy, Nishi, Shibu, and Jisha, met the Chief Minister when he arrived at the Ernakulam Guest House in Kochi. “We wanted to thank Oommen Chandy sir for all his help. Shiju was released so quickly because of assistance from the Chief Minister, other Ministers and Embassy officials,” said Joshy. The family also requested the Minster’s help in ensuring that Shiju got back his passport as soon as possible.
Pizhala resident Shiju was arrested from Abu Dhabi airport after a packet of drug LSD was found in his luggage. The drug was allegedly given to him by a man named Amal, who claimed that the package contained a jacket for his friend in Abu Dhabi. Shiju is currently staying at the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi following his release from prison.
