The second phase of the pulse polio immunization programme will be held in the district on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) K.P. Thampy said that a total of 1525 booths have been set up in the district to administer polio drops to nearly 1, 57, 647 children below the age of five. Booths have been set up at Primary Health Centres (PHCs), Government and private hospitals, bus and railway stations, markets and festival centres. Besides, 47 transit booths and 30 mobile booths have been set up. Booths have been set up in boats including Pallathuruthy area. Arrangements have also been made to administer polio drops to children below five years of age visiting the ongoing Akhila Bharata Srimad Bhagavatha Maha Sathram at Thuravur in the district.
A total of 3,200 volunteers and 171 supervisors were pressed in to service to administer polio drops. Transit booths will be functioning on Monday and Tuesday also. Volunteers will be moving around from house to house on Monday and Tuesday also to ensure that any child who had missed the drops on Sunday be also administered the dose.
A total of 1, 56, 253 children (99.1 per cent) have been administered polio drops in the first phase of the programme held on February 19 in the district.
The district-level programme will be inaugurated at Ambalappuzha Urban Health Training Centre here on Sunday.
A total of 346 children of the migrants in the district will also be targeted under the programme. Dr. Deepthi, RCH Officer and Vivek, deputy District Medical Officer were also present at the press conference.
