May 23, 2018 12:09 am | Updated 02:04 pm IST - Kochi

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) will take action against private vehicle owners who use their vehicles for transporting children to school.

An official release said that the licences of drivers using such vehicles would be suspended for six months.

Principals and headmasters of schools should ensure that children are not transported in vehicles that lack safety stickers provided by the Motor Vehicles Department.

Parents should avoid sending their children in such vehicles.

The public may alert K.M. Shaji (M: 7025950100), Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement), once they come across vehicles, which lack safety stickers, transporting children to schools. They may send the vehicle number and school name through WhatsApp.

Safety stickers have been made compulsory in school buses from June 1.

In other vehicles, it is being made mandatory from July 1. Four enforcement squads will be deployed from June 1 to monitor the movement of school buses.
