Damaged roads in the Aluva-Vyttila Kochi metro corridor will be repaired by DMRC in another 10 days since the rains have taken a break, it was decided at a traffic coordination committee meeting here on Tuesday.

DMRC had begun filling potholes in most parts, while resurfacing will be over by August 29. It was also decided to remove barricades from work sites where pillar work is getting over to enable hassle-free traffic movement during the oncoming Onam season. The height of barricades will be reduced at spots where they obstruct visibility.

KSEB officials who attended the meeting assured relocation of electric posts that obstruct traffic flow. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) will install 350 sign boards along the metro corridor to aid traffic movement, as part of the agency’s corporate social responsibility.

Though traffic police had promised a week ago to step up its drive against haphazardly parked vehicles that cause traffic hold ups, motorists had complained that the drive lacked momentum. People who come to restaurants and shops still brazenly park their cars and bikes on NH47 near Edappally junction and toll.

The MD of KMRL Elias George, South Zone ADGP K Padmakumar and officials of traffic police and Motor Vehicles’ Department attended the meeting.
