Road maintenance and allied works would be a priority sector for Kochi corporation’s People’s Plan Programme for the next fiscal. The civic body intends to spend Rs 23.38 crore for the road maintenance and related works during the 2013-14, according to a draft report presented at the corporation council on Wednesday.
The civic body also plans to implement development projects worth Rs. 8.47 crore for the welfare of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe populations living in the city. Around Rs.4.48 crore will be spent to develop road to the solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram and relaying some of the important city roads.
Development schemes for the Kudumbasree may get a financial assistance of Rs.2.25 crore, which will be utilised for Kudumbasree food courts and a bus services. These are among the 890 projects worth Rs. 94. 76 crore that was presented in the council. The corporation council meeting to be held on December 10 will consider the proposals.
The LDF councillors of the corporation boycotted the proceedings demanding the resignation of Mayor Tony Chammany and Town Planning Standing Committee chairman K.J. Sohan against whom an inquiry was ordered by Thrissur Vigilance court.
