The Department of Posts issues stamps of various personalities and events to mark important occasions in history. Certain personalities come in focus several times and stamps are issued on them on several occasions.

Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of Independent India, belongs to this category of distinguished personalities. It is the delight of philatelists to collect theme-based stamps and display them to the benefit of the public. Toneesh Thomas, an avid philatelist and railway official, has several theme-based collections to his credit. The collection of stamps on Nehru is among them. His thematic collections include personalities, freedom movement, Indian Railways and destination Kerala. Apart from conducting philatelic exhibitions, he conducts quiz programmes for school children.
