Rajiv Gandhi is perhaps the most misunderstood Prime Minister of the country, said P.D.T. Achari, former secretary-general of the Lok Sabha and author of ‘Resurgent India: Glimpses of Rajiv Gandhi’s Vision of India.’
“The average Indian may opine that his tenure as Prime Minister was a failure, but he laid the foundation for the liberalisation of the economy that followed. He tried to find solutions to issues rather than wait for them to blow over,” he said.
Mr. Achari was speaking at a press conference in Kochi organised by the Human Rights Protection Mission. The mission organised a human rights adalat at Alappuzha on Saturday.
“We received about 1,500 complaints. We will follow these up rigorously with government departments to ensure that justice is received,” said the Mission’s national president Prakash Chennithala.
