The Muvattupuzha Vigilance court on Tuesday ordered a quick verification of a complaint that the Central Bureau of Investigation owes the PWD Rest House in Ernakulam over Rs.9 lakh as rent.

Considering a petition, P. Madhavan, Enquiry Commissioner and Special Judge, directed the Superintendent of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau special cell in Ernakulam to probe the complaint and a file a report by August 31.

The petition, filed by social activist Jomon Puthenpurakkal, names the CBI Superintendent in Ernakulam, Ernakulam District Collector, Chief Engineer and an Executive Engineer of the PWD Buildings Division as the respondents in the case.

Two rooms

The petition states that the CBI Superintendent and his officers had occupied two rooms (No. 19 and No. 20) in the rest house from September 16, 1999 to October 18, 2007 without paying any rent or any valid order exempting them from paying the rent.

This way, an amount of Rs.9,49,500 is due from the CBI to the Public Works Department.
