The Public Works Department has decided to construct a concrete bridge across Periyar connecting Aluva town with Manappuram.

This will be a big relief to devotees to reach the sacred place to offer prayers at the Siva Temple.

The estimated cost of the construction is Rs. 10 crore. The 200-metre long and 6-metre wide bridge will connect Kottarakkadavu with the Sivarathri Manappuram, said a senior PWD official. There have been demands from devotees for a regular arrangement to visit the temple at Aluva Manappuram.

The temple complex witnesses heavy rush on Karkidaka Vavu when people come to offer prayers to the dead. Hundreds of people throng the temple during Sivarathri festival also.

The Aluva municipality made a temporary bridge during the Sivarathri season and devotees had to pay a fee for using the structure to cross the river.
