The National Confederation of Officers’ Associations, a forum for the executives of Central public sector undertakings, has said that the government and its think-tank Niti Aayog displayed “a complete lack of understanding of the purpose and role of the public sector in India.”
The officers were referring to the recent suggestions by the think-tank and the government on the strategic sale of the listed PSUs in the coming days. A statement issued by the officers said that all the problems of the PSUs had been attributed to their ownership. “On the other hand, where the companies are making profits and/or have large reserves every policy instrument is used to drain them,” the officers said.
The statement criticised the recent announcement that all sick units would be shut down.
