In a move to keep the roads and footpaths in the city free of hurdles, the police have decided to take stringent action against unauthorised parking. This was decided at a meeting of senior police officers, chaired by K. Padmakumar, IG, Ernakualam range, on Wednesday.

The police have also sought the help of the public to curb the menace of unauthorised parking. The public can inform the police on the telephone or through an SMS about any instance of unauthorised parking. The police have also asked the people to be alert about suspiciously dressed people travelling on two-wheelers or vehicles having number plates that do not look genuine or do not conform to rules.

Such information should be passed on to the police at the earliest, Mr. Padmakumar said in a statement issued by the City Police Commissioner's office.

The numbers on which the public can inform the police are: Police Control Room – 9497990066; City Traffic – 9497990067; 9497990068; shadow police: 9497980440.
