‘Police diverting murder probe’

May 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - KOCHI:

Even as the probe into the murder of a Dalit woman in Perumbavoor completed 16 days on Saturday, a relative of the victim accused the police of attempting to divert the investigation.

“The women police personnel guarding the victim’s mother and sister at the Perumbavoor taluk hospital prevented me from meeting the two,” the relative told reporters on Saturday.

She said the police had told her that the two were in their custody, and outsiders were not allowed to meet them.

She added that the condition of the two had worsened since their interrogation began.

She claimed that a Health Department official had attempted to influence the mother and the sister. The woman refuted the version of the Kuruppampady police that the victim’s body was cremated on the insistence of her relatives.
