A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday directed the Kochi City Police Commissioner to file a statement regarding details of traffic rule violation cases registered since 2009 in the city.

The Bench comprising Chief Justice J. Chelameswar and Justice P.R. Raman passed the oral directive when a writ petition filed by Rosy Arackal complaining about inadequate arrangements for pedestrian crossing in the city came up for hearing .

According to her, pedestrians found it very difficult to cross busy roads in the city. She pointed out that many cities in other States had foot overbridges. The petitioner sought a direction to the corporation and other respondents to demarcate roads with pedestrian crossings. She also sought a direction to the Commissioner to issue instructions to drivers to stop vehicles in front of the Zebra crossings so that pedestrians could cross roads.

The corporation and GCDA should be directed to state whether they could construct foot over bridges over busy roads in the city, the petitioner pleaded
