Enjoy metro ride by all means but take care not to overstay the welcome either on metro trains or at stations.
Better get down at the station to where the ticket is bought, and don’t overshoot even by one station.
Passengers who violate this may end up in trouble even if there is no difference in the fare to the original destination and the one where they actually get down.
AFC gates
They will not be able to get out of the station because the QR Code reader integrated into the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates will not read the code in the event of a mismatch of destination, and hence will not open, allowing their exit. They will be able to exit the station only after paying a fine of ₹50.
In the first three days since the launch of commercial operations of the metro, there had been several instances in which passengers overshot the original destination either by choice or out of ignorance. However, they weren’t fined and allowed out through manual gates.
“We will slap a fine of ₹50 on such passengers from this weekend. As of now, we are letting such passengers off the hook with a warning and after charging the difference in fare, if any, since it is still early days,” said a metro spokesperson.
Trouble also awaits passengers who roam around stations as their tickets will not be read at the AFC gates if they have stayed beyond 15 minutes after the completion of the journey.
