Parents protest against hike in school fee

May 31, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - KOCHI:

Parents of students in Chinmaya Vidyalaya at Kannankulangara, Thripunithura, have opposed the decision by the management to hike the fee for the new academic year.

Terming the hike as “illegal and illogical”, the parents have rallied under the Chinmaya Vidyalaya Parents and Teachers Association to initiate protests and take legal action against the fee hike.

Parents said that the management had gone in for an increase varying between 18 and 38 per cent in the new academic year compared with 2015-16. For example, parents of a student in Class III would have to now pay an annual fee of Rs. 28,690 against Rs. 24,208 last year. The school management collected Rs. 600 as fee for smart class from each student annually. But the school lacked such a facility, they alleged.

The association representatives also accused the Chinmaya Mission Educational and Cultural Test of disbanding the school management committee.

They said that the management was not permitting the Parent Teacher Association to function despite the forum having been registered in accordance with the rules.
