Over 35,000 seats will be available for the Plus One programme in Ernakulam in the new academic year.

For youngsters who crossed the SSLC mark on Monday, the district offers around 11,050 seats in government schools for the science, commerce and humanities courses. Of the 35,000 total seats, 17,335 are in the aided stream while the intake capacity in the unaided sector is 6,973.

As per data compiled by the ICT cell of the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, about 2,500 seats remained vacant in Ernakulam in the academic year 2014-15. The number of vacant seats in the order of government and unaided streams is 391 and 2,227 respectively.

The seats available under the government and aided (merit) quota will be filled through the single-window system. The allotment will be made from the central pool in Thiruvananthapuram.

Even though the intake for a Plus One batch is 50, officials said the government might give its nod for a 20 per cent increase this year. The total number of seats for Plus One in the State had gone up from 3.47 lakh to 4.06 lakh last year owing to this marginal increase.

The selection of students for the Plus One level will be based on the guidelines prepared by SCERT.

The total marks scored by the student along with the marks in the subject in which they had applied for will be considered for admission. The admission will be based on the Grading Point Average (GPA) scored by each student.
