A writ petition was filed on Wednesday in the Kerala High Court, challenging the order of the Cochin Port Trust asking to shut down the fuel station functioning at the Fort Kochi jetty in the light of the boat accident.

The petition was filed by K.K. Damodaran and Co.The petitioner pointed out that the Deputy Conservator of Cochin Port Trust has ordered that the petitioner shall cease to operate the fuel station in view of the boat tragedy. The order said that the fuel station adjoining No.1 Jetty had been functioning even though the licence for the jetty had expired on March 31, 2014.Apart from the reckless navigation of the fishing boat, one of the factors that might have contributed to the boat accident was the location of the fuel station in the close vicinity of the junkar, ferry boat and tourist jetties at Fort Kochi.
