The police team probing the twin robbery case in Kochi has arrested one more Bangladehi national.

The accused has been identified as Shameem, who was arrested from Madiwala in Bengaluru by a police team. The cops traced his location by tracking phone calls received by him. Preliminary investigations suggested that Shameem, who had crossed over to India two years ago, earned a living as a ragpicker. He will be brought to Kochi and produced before the court along with the three others arrested earlier from Delhi.

The police team along with the three accused arrested from Delhi is slated to reach Kochi by Sunday morning. “Interrogating the accused is crucial in ascertaining how they zeroed in on Kochi and what they did with the looted valuables,” said officials.

The police have expanded the search to the border areas of West Bengal and to Bangladesh following a tip-off that the accused fled to Bangladesh through Murshidabad.

A gang comprising 11 members broke into the house of Nannappilli Anandakumar near Hill Palace on December 16 last year. They tied up the family members and decamped with 50 sovereigns of gold, three mobile phones and ₹20,000 in cash.
