KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation has denied permission for Oberon Mall at Edappally, where a fire broke out last week, to reopen.
Permission was denied as the mall management failed to produce a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire and Rescue Services Department, according to the civic authorities.
“The licence of the commercial establishment can be renewed only on production of an NOC from the Fire and Rescue Services Department and a fitness certificate from the engineering wing of the corporation,” said V.K. Minimol, chairperson of the health standing committee of the corporation.
Alterations made
“The mall management had effected unauthorised changes in the building. The civic body had directed the authorities to undo the changes. Moreover, the Fire and Rescue Services Department had suggested some changes in the building in the wake of the fire accident. It appeared that they had not been effected. Hence, permission was denied,” explained Ms. Minimol.
