: The Kerala High Court on Monday restrained the Kochi Corporation and Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) from granting any permission for conversion of residential plots at the Panampilly Nagar Housing Colony into commercial places till the disposal of a writ against such conversion.

Justice P.R. Ramachandra Menon issued the interim order on a petition filed by Sobha Ramachandran and 14 residents. According to the petitioners, the housing colony was the first planned housing scheme in the state for middle and lower middle class populations. As per the title deeds, the buildings were allotted for the residential purposes only. Despite submission of various representations, the authorities had not taken any steps to curb the conversion of residential buildings.
