People are keenly awaiting Kochi Metro’s new logo, expected to be released shortly.

The ‘transit’ logo that is in the shape of Malayalam alphabet ‘Ka’ (the first alphabet of Kochi) will pave the way for a more vibrant one, Metro sources said. The new logo with a dynamic take of letters K and M will show how the Metro will seamlessly integrate with other commuting modes – buses, ferries etc., they said.

The logo will take on a different hue, depending on the circumstance.

“Thus, it is most likely to adorn a green shade on metro trains and blue on a modern fleet of ferries that will operate as feeder service for the metro. It might take on a different shade when used as corporate logo.”

The exterior and interior design and colour scheme of metro coaches too have been finalised and will be released alongside the new logo. The seats will be aquamarine blue – the same shade as that of each metro train’s front view, while hangers for passengers to hold on might be light green. The front of each train will as expected, resemble a robust tusker, with headlight cluster resembling tusks.

Research is underway on how best to make coaches look more lively, by wrapping the sides with graphics, art works or even advertisements.

“But care will be taken so that advertisements will not spoil the exterior look like what has happened with KSRTC buses. They will have to adhere to norms set by us,” the sources said.

Metro stakeholders took a cue on this from Kerala Tourism’s promotional campaigns in which exterior of coaches in select trains and also of London cabs were wrapped using icons of kathakali, mohiniyattom, snake boats, tea estates etc.
