Naval training vessels INS Tir and Gharial; patrol vessels Sujata and Sharda; missile corvette Kuthar and tall ships Tarangini and Sudarshini have thrown open their gangways to Kochiites for three days as the annual Navy Fest got under way at the Southern Naval Command here on Friday.
Vice-Admiral S.P.S. Cheema, Flag Officer Commanding- in-Chief of the command, inaugurated the fest and the fair organised in connection with this. Dornier maritime recce aircraft and helicopters are on static display at naval air station INS Garuda.
The Navy Fest has 27 stalls, including some 10 set up by various training schools under the command, which is the Navy’s training command. Professional gear, equipment and armament used by each department of the Navy are on display at the stalls. Replicas of platforms and components of technical equipment have also been displayed, with Navy personnel explaining their use to inquisitive visitors. Various training schools, including Navigation and Direction, Anti-Submarine Warfare and Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology have displayed their wares at the fest. Besides, there are those by the Naval Ship Repair Yard, the Naval Aircraft Yard and the Naval Armament Depot. Public may visit the fest every day between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. till November 23.
