Mud being removed from the Maharaja's College ground in the city on Wednesday.

Mud dumped near the synthetic track of Maharaja’s College ground was removed on Wednesday by the contractors.

College principal Latha Raj, who had ordered that the mud be removed, said the dumping was done without prior permission. The mud dumped right next to the synthetic track threatened to wash on to the track in the rain, and damage the facility. The dumping had led to much hue and cry from various quarters.

The mud left over from the piling work at a Kochi Metro site was reportedly dumped to fill up a big hole beside the ground.

The dumping was done at night against a decision taken at a meeting of the college monitoring committee and student representatives. SFI and DYFI activists had taken up the issue and organised a march to the principal’s office on Tuesday.
