MR vaccination drive achieves 62.2%

Private hospitals too joined the campaign

KOCHI: The measles-rubella vaccination drive in the district has covered 4.20 lakh children, achieving 62.22% of the target.

Since the drive started on October 3, there had been protests by a few sections in certain areas because of the confusion created by the anti-vaccine lobby through messages on the social media. However, the district administration with the help of the district health and education departments, had conducted awareness campaigns answering the queries raised by the members of the PTA and the general public.

Private hospitals have also joined the campaign with scheduled days for the MR vaccine at their centres. Those children who could not be vaccinated in schools because of any reason can access the service at such private institutions free of cost.

The block-wise coverage of the MR vaccine drive in the district is: Ramamangalam- 98.46%, Pizhala – 87.75%, Kumbalanghi – 87.19 %, Pambakuda - 81.26%, Chemmanganad – 77.29%, Ezhikkara – 75.58%, Angamaly – 74.92%, Kalady – 74.41%, Vengoor – 74.39%, Keecheri – 72.28%, Malippuram 71.74%, Vadavukode – 71.41%, Thripunithura- 67.27%, Cheranelloor – 66.78%, Varapetty – 65.89%, Pandappilly – 65.79%, Nettoor – 65.64%, Pallarimangalam – 61%, North Paravur – 60.64%, Muvattupuzha – 55.83%, Perumbavoor – 54.65%, Varapuzha – 54.24%, Aluva 51.26%, Kothamangalam - 46.20%, Kochi Corporation – 45.66%, Malayidamthuruthu 43.83%.

The active campaign will be on till November 3.
