E. Sreedharan, Principal Adviser to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, on Tuesday inspected the stretch from international stadium up to Pettah to asses the possible bottlenecks during Kochi Metro’s construction works in the city.
Road widening
He discussed with officials, who accompanied him, the issue of widening of the extremely-narrow Vyttila-Pettah stretch and delay in widening roads and junctions in many places.
The delay in acquiring land is prolonging the widening of Vyttila-Pettah stretch. Most junctions along the stadium-Pettah stretch will have to be considerably widened before commencing the metro’s piling works.
Test piling
In the meantime, Soma Constructions will begin test piling prior to commencing civil works along the stadium-Ernakulam South reach on Wednesday. It will be done at Ayurveda hospital premises in Kacheripady.
The hartal called by the Left Democratic Front today is unlikely to affect the work since the piling site is located away from the road. Piling works on the reach will begin by July end after a public-awareness programme, DMRC sources said.
South-Pettah reach
The officials of Era Constructions, who arrived here to undertake civil works on the South-Pettah stretch, took stock of the works and are in the process of mobilising the workforce.
MG Road excavation
The DMRC will most likely excavate a small length of the median in between Madhava Pharmacy Junction and Padma Junction on MG Road from July 19 midnight to July 21 midnight.
This will be done since pipelines beneath the road could not be located yet. The relocating of the pipeline is crucial before beginning piling works along MG Road.
