The Kochi metro rail project crossed a landmark on Saturday with the engine attaining the maximum operational speed of 80 kilometre per hour (kmph) during a trial run on the six-km stretch of the facility between Muttom and Edappally Toll. The authorities of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation planned to continue the test runs during the coming fortnight even as the test results on Saturday were satisfactory, sources said. The test runs are scheduled between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. during the days up to August 12.

The trial run on Saturday has proved that the six-km stretch is ready for operations.

Laying of track

Work on laying the track up to Palarivattom is expected to be completed in a month. The track will then be extended to Maharaja's College Ground.
