Come April, Non-resident Indians’ technology start-ups will get the help of an incubator in Kochi to hatch their ideas.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy launched the logo of the proposed NRI Technology Business Incubator (NRI-TBI) at a session dedicated for the State at the final lap of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Kochi on Wednesday, a press release said.
The facility designed to incubate NRI technology start-ups is a joint initiative of the Union government’s Department of Science and Technology, Technopark TBI, Norka, and Infopark Kochi.
The aim is to ensure a smooth and cost-effective launch of technology-based companies by the NRIs.
The business incubator will pick up technologies on electronic and embedded systems, green energy, future farming, and technological applications for oil and gas industry, tourism, logistics, e-commerce, e-learning etc.
The Kerala State IT Department has set aside 2,500 sq.ft at Infopark Kochi as the project office. It will be expanded to cover other IT parks across the State, including Technopark-Kollam and Cyberpark- Kozhikode.
NRI-TBI is regarded as the country’s first of its kind facility in the public-private-partnership model to offer plug-and-play office space, mentors and consultants from various fields. Value additions like green channel facilitation and remotely accessible office are expected to make it a perfect place for NRI ventures. Huge amount of dead NRI investments in banks means that capital mobilization is not likely to be a drag on start-ups.
