KUFOS to set up incubation centre

Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS) has decided to set up a business incubation centre in collaboration with industrial bodies to foster entrepreneurship among students.

The academic council of the varsity has estimated that the development of infrastructure would cost Rs. 3 crore. An official release said the centre would focus on the development of value added products, aquaculture projects and consultancy services in its initial stage.

It would serve as a single window for disseminating relevant information, technological support and training to the stakeholders.

KUFOS will also offer Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs) aimed at increasing the enrolment ratio in fisheries and ocean studies education. Software developed by the Ministry of Human Resources Development will be used for developing the online teaching facility.

From the next academic year, the varsity will offer 10 courses including M. Sc Applied Marine Chemistry; MBA in Energy Management; B.Tech in Marine Safety Engineering, six M. Tech courses (Fisheries Engineering, Underwater Acoustics, Petroleum Engineering, Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Ocean Coastal Safety and Coastal Harbour Engineering); and Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Law. The on-going full time LL. M course will be converted to an evening course.
