Various political parties and organisations have expressed their condolences on the death of Minister for Food and Civil Supplies T. M. Jacob here on Sunday.
Among the parliamentarians produced by the State, the late Mr. Jacob had prime position, said K.C. Joseph, Minister for Culture, in his condolence message.
In his message, K.V. Thomas, Union Minister of State for Food, said that Mr. Jacob's death marked a great loss to the democratic institutions. He took the initiative to implement the ‘rice for Re.1' scheme that was part of the 100-day programme, Mr. Thomas said.
A release issued by Janata Dal (United) recalled that Mr. Jacob was a noted administrator.
Shadkala Govinda Marar Kalasamithi of Ramamangalam lost a patron by the death of Mr. Jacob, said K. Jayachandran Nair, secretary of the Samithi.
The international book festival committee also expressed its condolences on the death of Mr. Jacob.
The political parties and organisations that condoled his death include the Bharatiya Janata Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal (United), and Kerala School Teachers' Front.
The State committee of the teachers' front said that its Kerala formation day programme scheduled for Tuesday at Thiruvananthapuram had been postponed in view of Mr. Jacob's death.
