The Internal Security Investigation Team (ISIT) arrested one person belonging to Bangladesh on charges of entering and staying in the country without any documents.

Shaheen Biya, 28, of Murishidabad in Bangladesh, was staying along with migrant labourers from outside the State at a rented space at Ponjassery near Perumbavoor in Ernakulam Rural.

The arrest was made on the basis of information passed on to A.V. George, Superintendent of Police, ISIT, that calls were being made from the area using Bangladeshi SIM cards. The investigation that followed narrowed down on the suspect, who has been staying in the premises for the last one month and preferred to stay inside the building most of the time. This caused suspicion that he could be engaging in anti-national activities.

The ISIT team led by Circle Inspector D.S. Suneesh Babu picked up the suspect from the building owned by M.K. Shamsudeen near the mosque on Monday. On interrogation, he is learnt to have confessed coming into the country earlier without valid documents after bribing Border Security Force personnel. The investigators also confiscated two SIM cards, both issued from Bangladesh, from the suspect.

He was later handed over to Perumbavoor police for further probe into his activities.
