The Kalamassery police have launched a probe to trace the parents of a newborn girl, who was found abandoned at an isolated location near the Kalamassery HMT Road on Thursday night.

The infant, barely a week old, was first spotted by Ebin Jose, a native of Companyppady who was returning home around 9 p.m. on Thursday. When contacted, the Janaseva Sisubhavan in Aluva expressed willingness to admit the infant.

The infant was later subjected to a medical examination at a private hospital in Aluva. The medical examination confirmed that the baby was healthy, but it was admitted to the neonatal unit for observation.

The Kalamassery police have collected details of women whose babies were delivered at the gynaecology and obstetrics wing of the Government Medical College here in the last 15 days.
