The anti-defacement squad removed a large number of unauthorised publicity materials from the district. The squad removed 3,042 posters, 273 banners and 458 flex boards. Graffiti at two place in Kothamangalam constituency were also removed.
The authorities have cautioned political parties and candidates against publicity being made through local channels and social media without the approval of the media monitoring committees. Facilities for the certification of such publicity materials had been arranged, said a communication issued by M.G. Rajamanikyam, district electoral officer.
Event to focus on women’s issues
Greater Cochin Development Watch, in association with human rights activists, will organise a call attention programme at High Court junction on Friday at 5 p.m. on issues being faced by women.
The programme is being organised following the murder of a woman at Perumbavoor. P.K. Shamsudheen, a former judge of the High Court of Kerala, will inaugurate the meeting. Social Justice Culture Collective, another group, will organise a meeting at C. Achutha Menon hall at 3 p.m. to give shape to agitation programmes in the backdrop of the incident.
Security measures for workers sought
The Kerala Pradesh Mobile Tower Mazdoor Sangh has demanded security measures for technicians and non-technicians engaged in setting up mobile towers across the State. The workers should be provided risk allowances and additional wages for being engaged in the high risk job, demanded K.K. Vijayakumar, State president of the Bharathiya Mazdoor Sangh.
Appeal to HIL retirees
The former employees of Hindustan Insecticides Limited (HIL), who retired from the service of the company after January 1, 2007, and are eligible for medical insurance, should submit their life certificates to the company before May 10, according to a communication issued by the Deputy General Manager (Personal and Administration).
