The district administration has declared holiday for all schools in Ernakulam on Friday.

An official release issued here said that it will be applicable for schools under CBSE, ICSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya. There will be no holiday for colleges, including professional colleges. The decision was taken in view of the heavy rain and weather conditions prevailing across the district.

Schools will function on Saturday as recommended by the Deputy Director of Education to compensate the holiday declared on Friday.

Water entered the ground floor of S.R.V. Upper Primary Government School, Ernakulam, following heavy rain triggering panic among students and teachers. Students were shifted to the first floor after the ground floor got flooded in the morning. Water entered classrooms, computer lab and office room. The preparation of mid-day meals for students was affected.

School authorities pointed out that the water tank at the ground level got polluted in the flooding. The supply of water can be restored only after cleaning up the water tank, they said.
