The pace of the election campaign has picked up momentum in the Piravom constituency with Anoop Jacob of the United Democratic Front, M.J. Jacob of the Left Democratic Front and C.P. Sathyan of the BDJS doing a flurry of rounds in the constituency, meeting voters and appealing for their support.

Anoop Jacob, Minister for Civil Supplies in the outgoing UDF government, is a happy man after getting the “autorickshaw” allotted as his election symbol. A spokesman for the candidate said that Mr. Jacob drove around in an autorickshaw on Tuesday, visiting voters and seeking their patronage.

A group of autorickshaw drivers in Piravom town had paid the deposit money for Mr. Jacob at the time of his filing the nomination. The campaign for Mr. Jacob officially started on Tuesday at the Irumbanam Traco Cable Junction. DCC president V.J. Paulose presided over the inaugural meet. The presence of the LDF candidate, M.J. Jacob, in the poll battle has made Piravom one of the most watched ones in the State. The veteran party leader continues to defy his age, meeting voters in the Rayamangalam panchayat on Tuesday.

He promised the voters that the panchayat would see a repeat of the 2006-11 period when he represented Piravom.

The panchayat and the constituency as a whole would see rapid development, he said. The voters, he said, would recall development activities like road improvement, renovation of the lift irrigation project and reconstruction of schools during his period as MLA.
