The Kerala High Court on Friday expressed its displeasure over the delay in handing over the case relating to human trafficking through Nedumbassery airport to the CBI.
Justice S.S. Satheesachandran while hearing the bail petition of Raju Mathew, suspended sub-inspector at the immigration wing of the airport, also directed the State government to furnish details regarding the steps taken to transfer the investigation to the CBI.
The court had earlier observed that a CBI probe would be more appropriate in dealing with the human trafficking cases and it would further help in tracing the involvement of senior police officers in the case.
The court had observed that the investigation carried out by the State police against the two accused was unlikely to have any desired result or curb trafficking.
The State police force did not have the means to trace persons who had left the country without proper emigration clearance.
The police had also came under fire from the court for its apathy in taking action against several police officers involved in the case.
The court had criticized the police while dismissing a bail plea of another accused.
