HC moved against choice of panel head

March 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KOCHI:

A petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Monday challenging the selection of Shobha Koshy, former Chief Postmaster General, Kerala Circle, as chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

The petition was filed by Lalamma Varghese, who said that Ms. Koshy did not have any experience in the field of child welfare activities.

Contention

Ms. Koshy had never done anything, much less any outstanding work for promoting the welfare of children. Therefore, she was not competent to hold the post of chairperson. The petitioner had been shortlisted for the post.

The petitioner believed that she would be selected for the post.

The selection of Ms. Koshy was in violation of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act 2005 and the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, the petitioner said.
