The festival at Mata Amritanandamayi Math’s Brahmasthanam in Edappally got off to a fine start on Wednesday.

Addressing devotees, Mata Amritanandamayi said that the world had shuddered at the threat of ebola virus that had taken many lives and research is on to find an antidote to it. But a bigger virus that is threatening humanity is hatred. No one has to look anywhere else for an antidote to this one, she added. Love and compassion are the antidotes that are within us .

Calling upon parents to be careful about the Internet addiction among children, Mata Amritanandamayi said that while Internet has given the world its technological edge, it is not without dangers and one needs to secure children’s safe usage of the Internet. Various dignitaries distributed the benefits of the new Amritakuteeram Bhavana Danam scheme, Amritanidhi pension and Vidyamritam Scholarship to the beneficiaries.

Kochi Mayor Tony Chammany, speaking on the occasion said that the missionary zeal of the Math was rendering services to all poor and disaster-hit people across the world.

Hibi Eden, MLA, justices Padmanabhan Nair and P. R. Raman, B. Ramachandran, Additional District Magistrate, A.N. Radhakrishnan, BJP State general secretary and T.K. Devarajan, Maradu municipal chairman and others attended the programme.
