Yet another passenger was detained with smuggled gold at the Nedumbassery international airport here on Saturday.

Faisal, 31, of Koduvally, arrived here by a flight from Doha around 7 a.m. While he did not declare that he possessed any gold, Customs officials investigated his checked-in baggage for contraband substances. They found five gold biscuits, weighing about 583 gm in total, inside a paper hole puncher and stapler in his luggage. Officials estimate that the gold is worth about Rs.18 lakh in the market. “Faisal was acting as a carrier for others. We are investigating who was behind the smuggling,” said a Customs official.
