The Ernakulam Maharaja’s College’s efforts to become a centre of excellence utilising the state-of-the-art technology have got a major push.
The autonomous institution is among the five government colleges that will be elevated to digital colleges and centres of excellence using the Rs.150 crore earmarked in the State Budget presented by Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac on Friday. Of this, Rs.50 crore will be divided among the short-listed colleges this fiscal. Besides Maharaja’s, University College at Thiruvananthapuram; Kerala Varma College, Thrissur; Victoria College, Palakkad; and Brennen College, Thalassery will reap the benefit out of the budgetary support.
“It’s a major assistance for Maharaja’s as the college will be able to take the digital route to make its admission and evaluation systems highly efficient and transparent. The entire campus will be provided Wi-Fi using the assistance,” said T.V. Francy, chairman of the Governing Council of the college.
The aim of the digital college proposal is to introduce an end-to-end network that will make all works related to admission, examination, evaluation and publication of results online.
