Government schools in district better their performance
Girls fared better than boys in Ernakulam district when the results of the SSLC examinations were announced on Wednesday.
Girls were far ahead in the list of candidates who bagged A plus in all the subjects. In schools coming under the Aluva educational sub-district, 306 girls won A plus in all subjects while only 205 boys could manage a similar performance.
Girls outshined boys in Ernakulam educational sub-district. A plus was won by 285 girls in all subjects while the corresponding figure for boys was 89. In schools under the Kothamangalam educational sub-district, 130 girls bagged A plus in all subjects. Only 72 boys could win A plus in all subjects here.
The number of girls that scored A plus in all subjects in schools coming under Muvattupuzha educational sub-district was 129.
Only 57 boys could manage to win A plus in all subjects in schools here.
Out of the 14,802 students in the State who won A plus in all subjects, 1,300 candidates are from Ernakulam district.
Among the 931 schools that registered 100 per cent success in the examination, 118 institutions represented Ernakulam district.
Government schools bettered their performance compared with last year. Thirty-three government schools spread across the educational sub-districts including Ernakulam, Aluva, Kothamangalam, and Muvattupuzha bagged 100 per cent success this time against 30 institutions last year.
Fifty-two aided and 33 unaided schools in the district also won 100 per cent success.Plus One seats
About 29,000 seats are available for the Plus One programme in various schools in Ernakulam district. The combined intake for science, commerce and humanities courses under the merit seats category is 17,130. For seats under the sports category (government merit), the total intake is 625. The combined intake for science, commerce and humanities courses under the management quota is 3,075. There are about 5,700 seats under the unaided category in the district.

Unaided category— Science-4,000; Humanities-150; Commerce-1,650.
Seats available under the government and aided (merit) quota would be filled through the single-window system. The allotment would be made from the central pool in Thiruvananthapuram.
