Kochiites could hop on to safer and comfortable Metro coaches as the trains are expected to provide the best of facilities to the commuters.
Each train will be composed of 3 cars, about 65 m long and with a capacity to carry up to 975 passengers. It will have two air conditioning units per car to provide thermal comfort to the commuters besides having two designated wheelchair area with specific tip-up seats.
KMRL officials said there would be priority area and cushioned seats for passengers with special needs. The coaches will have different colour seats and grab handles for priority zones aligned with designated platform zone.
Space will be earmarked exclusively for providing information to the passengers like dynamic route maps; public announcement in three languages; large LCD information displays; closed CCTVs for passenger security; side destination displays on each car; and passenger emergency intercom for communication with the driver.
KMRL had given the contract to build and supply 25 state-of-the-art metros to Alstom in October 2014. The company will design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the 25 standard track gauge trains, with an option to supply 25 additional metro sets.
Metro officials claimed that the high efficiency trains use less energy when they accelerate and provide high regeneration while braking.
