Former Kochi Corporation councillor E.M. Sunil Kumar has quit Communist Party of India (CPI). He told a press conference that he, along with a group of CPI workers, quit the party in protest against “nepotism” and “divisiveness” under the CPI district leadership. A statement issued by Mr. Kumar blamed P. Raju, district secretary of the CPI, and the top district leadership for their decision.
He claimed in the statement that “hundreds” of CPI workers in the district had decided not to renew their party membership.
