The final hearing on the alleged rape and murder of a Dalit Law student at Perumbavoor at the Ernakulam Principal sessions Court will conclude by Tuesday.

According to sources, the counsel for Ameerul Islam, the lone accused in the case, has already completed argument on the material evidence presented by the police and is slated to complete the argument on scientific and medical evidence by December 5.

The court is expected to announce the date for pronouncing its judgment soon afterwards.

During its argument on Thursday, the defence counsel held that material evidence, including the weapon used for the murder and sandals of the accused, was fabricated by the police. Further, the counsel also questioned the veracity of the statements of witnesses examined by the prosecution.

The court commenced the final hearing early this month after the completion of examination of prosecution witnesses.

To back the case, the prosecution has presented 290 documents and 36 material evidences.

The case pertains to the alleged brutal rape and murder of a Dalit Law student at Perumbavoor in April last year.

The trial in the case was transferred to the Principal Sessions Court here from the Kuruppampady Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in July last year.
