: Discussions have begun among defence research and development establishments on adopting a uniform line of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware, to be called DRDO off-the-shelf (DOTS) hardware, at the national workshop on ‘Embedded Systems for Defence Applications-2015’ that got under way at Nedumbassery, near here, on Friday. The two-day workshop is organised by the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL) at Thrikkakara, Kerala’s only defence research facility.
Aeronautical Development Agency chief P.S. Subramanyam inaugurated the workshop. NPOL director S. Anantha Narayanan gave the opening remarks. Senior scientist of Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) P. Radhakrishna delivered the keynote address, calling for standardized and shared use of commercial open source technology to address issues of standardisation, certification, maintenance and reusability.
A host of DRDO labs are taking part at the workshop. An industrial expo is also organised alongside.
