The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has initiated steps to suspend the licences of the driver and conductor of the private bus whose crew attacked some Industrial Training Institute students at Nettoor on Wednesday.
Steps are also being taken to cancel the permit of the bus after District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla in his capacity as Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) asked MVD officials to recommend action to the authority. Besides, the traffic police on Thursday began acting against private bus operators guilty of denying entry to students. Bus employees accused of attacking the students were produced by the Panangad police before the court. They were later remanded.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Students Union (KSU) observed black day on campuses across the city and took out a procession from the District Congress Committee office in protest against the attack. “We attached stickers on buses operated within the city limits demanding that public transport be made student-friendly and that concession be declared the right of students and not a favour extended by bus operators,” said KSU district president Aloshious Xavier.
