The life and struggles of freedom fighter and former Congress leader Muhammad Abdul Rahiman Sahib should serve as a motivation for the party workers to forge ahead in these challenging times, Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V.M. Sudheeran has said. “It is a fact that the party is going through some tough periods. But we should not be dejected and instead take heart from the life story of the great leader, who played a key role in the setting up of the party during the pre-Independence period,” Mr. Sudheeran said, addressing party workers at a function organised by the District Congress Committee to commemorate the great leader on the occasion of his 69th death anniversary here on Sunday.

According to him, Sahib always stood for the people and even had his moments of difference with the Congress leadership at times.

“He took the liberty to challenge the government’s decision even being a party of the ruling council in the erstwhile Madras Assembly. This shows the extent to which he had gone to protect the interests of the common man,” he said.

Besides, it was Sahib’s interventions as a member of the committee to study the land holding patterns and tenant relations that paved the way for the much-acclaimed land reforms of 1957, he added.
