A preliminary investigation by the Mercantile Marine Department (MMD), Kochi, has confirmed the involvement of Amber L , a Panama-flag bulk carrier, in the collision with a fishing vessel off Kochi on June 11.

For a detailed inquiry into the incident, the Principal Officer of the MMD has ordered the detention of the vessel.

Officials at the coastal police station in Fort Kochi said a decision to detain and interrogate the ship crew would be taken after consultations with the higher-ups.
